There are many different types of people in our world. These people attempt to work through life’s everyday problems in peace. Lord of the Flies illustrates what happens when people cannot work together peacefully. Wars break out and people are hurt and even killed. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, Golding demonstrates the effects of people on each other through a microcosm of society.

By using a microcosm of society, Golding uses characters to symbolize types of people. Ralph is the leader because he has many ideas that are useful to the tribe, such as starting a fire so ships could possibly see the plume of smoke and rescue them. Jack is the bully of the group because he is mean. He wants to control people, and he feels contempt for anybody who disagrees with him. Simon symbolizes Christ and is the friendly one of the group. He is always merciful and gives to others. “Simon, sitting between the kids and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy, who grabbed it” (Golding 68). In this quote, Piggy is ravenously hungry and Simon gives him some of the sensuous meat so that he does not starve. The officer and pilot are the teachers of the group because they are adults. Piggy is the smart one because he can think ahead. “‘Why do you hate me?’” (Golding 109). Piggy asked the question to Jack. Jack hates Piggy because he is smart, and Jack will never be that smart. The rest of the children are followers. Therefore, they do whatever people tell them to do.

The novel was written by Golding about the events that occurred during World War Two. The war was between democratic and totalitarian governments. By using an allegory, Ralph and Piggy symbolized democracy, Jack symbolized totalitarianism, and Simon was in between the two. This type of thing is occurring in the world today between the terrorists and the United States. Golding’s novel emphasizes that people should try to work out there differences peacefully, because fighting solves nothing. Golding is trying to show us that if history repeats itself, man may not survive because, ironically, man’s worst enemy is man.

In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the author demonstrates how people treat each other through a microcosm of society. Golding shows that when people disagree and order disappears, there is complete chaos. War breaks out and people are hunted, hurt, and even killed, which is very ineffective because nothing really gets solved. Men and governments should overcome their disagreements in peace, like civilized people, instead of going to war, like savages.

Making the paper come alive

The sky silently stared at the beach watching the joyful, optimistic people relaxing on the smooth, silky sand. I looked upon the sun as it started to set, escaping away from my sight. People watched the horizon as it began to look like shades of flaming red and orange, creating a beautiful atmosphere. People stood in astonishment glaring at the remarkable landscape at all its beauty and admiration.

The extraordinary, celestial sky displayed its phenomenal sunset as thousands of eyes gazed at its loveliness. The sunset looked like an amazing peacock in the sky, flattering its wings.

The aquamarine sea created waves that galloped to shore like and elegant white horse. People surfed on the immeasurable waves showing off their proficiency. The sea was so clear and clean, that I could see my own reflection illuminated in it. Hundreds of flashes can be seen as tourists take photos of the wonderful view. People exercised their bodies swimming in the luscious azure water.

The sea has seen many people, from many countries, which arrive then depart. The eternal sapphire sea, will never go away always watching gracefully. It seemed as if the sounds of the waves whispered my again and again, as if it was alive.

The beautiful, bright golden beach shines as if am in a dream, in a far away galaxy. Many youngsters played with the sand creating imaginative castles. I watched the children play it was a real joyful experience, and reminded me of my childhood. The aroma of salt can be widely smelt from miles away. Many people looked unconcerned, seating on the beach as if their troubles where so far away, as if they were restarting their lives. I can understand how they felt, when I looked at the beach for the first time I was speechless such an exquisite view could only exist in a fantasy world.

The trees dazzled in amazement, towering everything in sight, beautifully positioned like a paradise. As I look up I can see the leaves of the trees hover over my head. The gigantic, gorgeous, green leaves drop and place themselves gently on the sand. The trees can see everything in sight, as if it was a watch tower guarding its surroundings. Listening to all the conversations, glaring like an eagle.

The buildings stand in amazement as the exquisite climate, and surroundings made many people believe they were royalty.

The buildings are shaped with a triangular roof, looking as if they were toys and not buildings. Hotels were over crowded with people, from many cultures, and countries, beautifully decorated, fit for a king. Many shops sell many different goods. Children buying souvenirs shop keepers eager to make money and restaurants providing delicious food and drink, people never complained.

Many cars are hustling and bustling. From big family cars, to sleek sport cars, Jaguars, BMW’s, Mercedes and many others. Car horns roared, the local car park is manically busy. The energetic drivers are eager to visit the luxurious beach. I watched many more people come and go, I could never imagine leaving this magnificent, fantasy, place, and the feeling of being far away from my troubles was tremendous.

Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is set in Verona and as the prologue says the play is about two lovers who are driven into suicide by their feuding families. This play is a romantic tragedy, it is romantic because of the love between Romeo and Juliet and it is a tragedy because the lovers die in the end. The death of the lovers does not go in vain because their families put their differences behind them and start a new beginning but this still makes the end very tragic and emotional. Shakespeare the writer of this play has wrote many plays in his career and he has written a variety of genres from tragedies to comedies.

Mercutio is the first person to die in the play. His death occurs mainly because of the feud although there are many other factors that contribute to his death. One of the other main factors of Mercutio’s death is Tybalt’s fiery character and his hatred for Romeo; a Montague who gate crashed his uncle Capulet’s party. For that reason Tybalt went to fight Romeo but Romeo would not fight because he just married Juliet, a Capulet who is Tybalt’s cousin. You could also argue to some extent that Romeo was the cause of Mercutio’s death because he gate crashed the Capulet’s party and got Tybalt started and looking for a fight. When Tybalt came to fight Romeo, Romeo gave a ‘vile submission’ and made Mercutio furious and at that point it could be said that Mercutio brought death upon himself because the fight had nothing to do with him and he was mocking Tybalt by calling him names, for example he called him ‘Good King of Cats’ and ‘rat-catcher’ this infuriated Tybalt and led him into committing Mercutio’s murder. We also know that Tybalt did not want to fight Mercutio because as he sees Romeo he says ‘Well, peace be with you, sir, here comes my man’ this shows that Tybalt does not want to fight Mercutio but he wants to fight Romeo this is also proven when he says ‘What wouldst thou have with me’ to Mercutio. Mercutio’s consistent insults to Tybalt made Tybalt lose his temper and want to fight Mercutio and to prove this he says ‘I am for you’ while drawing his dagger. Romeo shows that he does not want to see Mercutio or Tybalt injured and that he love Tybalt when he leaps in between the two raging men in an attempt to stop the brawl. Romeo also tells to Benvolio’s to help him stop the battle but Benvolio does nothing this suggests that it could be Benvolio’s fault that Mercutio dies. As Romeo was holding the two men apart Tybalt showing his violent nature he stabs Mercutio from under the arm of Romeo.

There are many factors for the death of Tybalt. It could be said that it was his own fault that he got killed because of his fiery character, he went looking for Romeo and then killed Romeo’s best friend Mercutio which then in turn led to Romeo wanting to avenge his friends death. Romeo take a immense part in the death of Tybalt as he is the one who killed him to avenge his friends death and he says ‘This but begins the woe other must end’ to Benvolio which shows that he wants end the sadness that Tybalt began by killing Mercutio, by killing Tybalt. Romeo play an even greater part in Tybalt’s death not by killing him but going to the Capulets ball, if he did not go then he would have not upset Tybalt which then would have not lead to him looking for Romeo and then killing Mercutio. This would mean that Romeo would not have to avenge Mercutio’s death by killing Tybalt therefore he would have not been banished and then his o mother would have not died of sadness. Not only that but then he would not have been banished and him Juliet could run away and that way his, Juliet and Paris’s deaths would have been avoided. The feud plays apart in the death of Tybalt in the same way as Romeo not attending the Capulet’s ball because the feud causes the hatred between the two families and if there was no feud Tybalt would have not been upset by the fact that Romeo graced the ball with his presence.

Like all the other deaths in the play the feud plays a part in Lady Montague’s death had there been no feud there would have not been the death of Tybalt and Romeo would have not been banished. Lady Montague’s death is actually caused by the sorrow of the Prince’s verdict to banish Romeo from Verona so you could say it was the Princes fault that she died. It could also be argued that it is Romeos fault that his mother died because if didn’t go to the Capulet’s ball Tybalt would not come looking for him and in turn he would not have to murdered him for killing Mercutio.

The person to die before the main characters is Paris he dies because of his love for Juliet. If Paris did not love Juliet and try to marry her she would have not taken the potion and he would have not gone to the Capulets burial site and tried to stop Romeo from getting to Juliet’s body, Romeo would not have stabbed him. It cannot be said that it is Romeos fault for the death of Paris because Romeo warns Paris to leave but he chooses not to. ‘Good gentle youth, tempt not a desp’rate man, Fly hence and leave me’ this shows that Romeo wanted Paris to go and not kill him.

Romeo’s death has many factors contributing to it. A factor that contributes to Romeo’s death is the Prince’s decision of banishment and the sorrow of being torn away from his true love Juliet, Ha, banishment? be merciful, say ‘death’ this shows that he rather die than be banished from Verona. Another important factor is the feud, if there was no feud there would be noting standing in the way of Romeo and Juliet living happily together. The feud is a factor of Romeo’s death because if there was no feud Tybalt would have not tried killing Romeo and instead kill Mercutio Romeo would have not killed Tybalt and then be banished. Friar Lauwance plays a vital part in Romeos death because he did not insure that Romeo was told about the sleeping potion. Romeo would have known the fires scheme about the sleeping potion and he would have not committed suicide.

SRAELI FOREIGN MINISTER Silvan Shalom on Monday sought to soften Sunday’s statement by Vice Premier Ehud Olmert that “killing (Arafat) is … one of the options” under consideration to effect Israel’s decision to “remove” the Palestinian leader.

“It (killing Arafat) is not the official policy of the Israeli government,” Shalom told reporters Monday. “It was never before, and we don’t speak about any killing, we didn’t speak about it before, and we don’t speak about it today.”

But Olmert’s statement gave new momentum to the Palestinian demand for speedy U.N. action on a resolution demanding that Israel refrain from taking any action against Arafat. The Security Council scheduled an open meeting Monday to discuss the situation in the Middle East and consider the Palestinian resolution.

ISRAEL ACCUSES U.N. OF ‘HYPOCRISY’

In advance of the meeting, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman, accused the Security Council of “hypocrisy” for considering the Palestinian resolution after declining to convene to discuss Palestinian suicide bombings and shootings.

The Security Council began consultations on the resolution late Friday and then adjourned until Monday, despite Palestinian pressure for a quick vote.

In the interim, the council issued a press statement expressing “the view that the removal of chairman Arafat would be unhelpful and should not be implemented.” The statement, read by the council president, British Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry, reflected the consensus among the 15 council members.

Israel blames Arafat for blocking peace efforts and preventing a crackdown against militants who have carried out two suicide bombings in the last week.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday that Israel would incite rage among Arabs and Muslims everywhere by exiling or killing Arafat.

“The Israelis know our position quite well,” Powell told “Fox News Sunday” during a visit to Iraq. “The United States does not support either the elimination of him or the exile of Mr. Arafat.”

Last week, Israel’s security Cabinet decided in principle to “remove” Arafat, but did not say what action would be taken, and when.

The Israeli decision, which came in response to twin Hamas suicide bombings that killed 15 people last week, has revived Arafat’s flagging popularity and reaffirmed his status as undisputed leader and national symbol.

Thousands of Palestinians have taken to the streets in daily protests since last week. However, the initial spontaneity has worn off, and on Monday, school children were sent into the streets in several West Bank towns to demonstrate support for Arafat.

At Arafat’s headquarters in the town of Ramallah, about 200 scouts beating drums and waving Arafat posters gathered in the courtyard. The Palestinian leader briefly appeared at the sandbagged entrance, smiled and flashed victory signs.

Activists from Arafat’s Fatah movement pitched six more tents in the compound, saying they would serve as human shields to protect Arafat from a possible Israeli raid. One tent was erected over the weekend.

Also Monday, Fatah legislators met to come up with candidates for Cabinet posts. The outgoing prime minister, Mahmoud Abbas, widely known as Abu Mazen, had come under constant criticism from Fatah, in part because the party felt it was not sufficiently represented in his Cabinet.

“Fatah institutions will choose the members of the government, in consultation with President Arafat,” said legislator Hani al-Hassan.

In pressing for the appointment of a prime minister earlier this year, the United States and Israel hoped to sideline Arafat. However, Arafat has refused to relinquish any of his powers, and constant wrangling over authority contributed to Abbas’ resignation earlier this month.

Acting Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, known as Abu Ala, has told confidants he has not intention of challenging Arafat. It remained unclear whether Fatah would present Qureia with a pool of candidates from which he would fill 16 Cabinet posts, or whether he would simply accept a list of 16 names.

Shalom reiterated Monday that Qureia would be judged on his actions, but made it clear that he would have preferred Abbas to remain in power. Qureia “is not as good as Abu Mazen because he (Qureia) knows his power comes from Arafat,” Shalom said.

CONCESSION ON BARRIER?

In a sign that Israelis were bending on other U.S. demands, Israeli security officials said Sharon has decided not to build, for now, a section of security barrier that would have dipped deep into the West Bank to incorporate Jewish settlements in the center of territory that Palestinians want for a state.

The previously intended route of the barrier enraged Palestinians, who saw it as a land grab, and was strongly opposed by the United States.

The plan to erect a security barrier between Israel and the West Bank is popular in Israel as a way to block suicide bombers. No Palestinian bombers have come from the Gaza Strip, which is fenced.

Israel has completed about 90 miles of the West Bank barrier, whose fences, trenches, razor wire and concrete walls could eventually run more than 400 miles, depending on the ultimate route.

Many great authors incorporate symbols throughout their pieces in order to give the reader a deeper meaning of what they are trying to convey. Before The Awakening Chopin wrote numerous amounts of shorts stories and was unable to master the literary art of symbolism. Her structure was unorganized which led to many problems with her writing. By the time she wrote The Awakening Kate Chopin was a master of literary symbolism and within almost every piece she writes the symbols play a large role in comprehending the “bigger picture.” According to Merriam- Webster Online Collegiate Dictionary, symbolism is: the art or practice of using symbols especially by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations. Kenneth Eble’s essay from the Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism (TCLC) says, “[Chopin] seems to have grasped instinctively the use of the unifying symbol—here the sea, sand, and sky—and with it the power of individual images to bind the story together” (Eble 2). Throughout Kate Chopin’s novel about sexual passion and private emotions the use of symbolize helps impose her ideals about Edna’s struggle with society.

Chopin begins The Awakening with the description of birds locked in a cage; these birds are considered by most professors’ parallels to various characters in the novel. Besides the characters these animals represent a generalization of the Victorian women in their age (Ward 3-4). Throughout the novel an assortment of birds and images in relationship to each other emerge. According to an online reference, these avian symbols represent freedom from society, failure and even some of the decisions that Edna Pontellier is faced with (Woodlief 1). The novel opens with a parrot and a mockingbird locked in a cage screaming “Allez vous-en! Allez vous-en! Sapristi!” the translation of this text is “Get out! Get out! Damn it!” (Chopin 5). Stated in the Sparknote, these messages are symbolic to Edna in her post-awakening state of mind. It illustrates the illicit thoughts that she ponders while she awaits the forthcoming awakening. The cages that the parrots are in metaphorically represent societies’ confinement of women. These captivities do not let women have much room to move around and express themselves. As the trapped parrot struggles for freedom (trying to escape the cage), it knows that it is unachievable. Edna also begins to fight for freedom and realizes that society will never lower its standards to except her as equal whether she is a mother, wife or woman (Ward 4).

Besides Edna, another character that has a symbolic counter side is Alcee Arobin, the young charmer who seduces Edna during her awakening. Chopin was able to craft his name from the “the harbinger of spring”, which is a robin. Cambridge University notes that Robins are known for flying near humans and are not afraid of them alike Alcee who finds it easy to move from woman to woman and ignores the “cages” society places on them (Martin 2).

Another personality that adds to Edna’s awakening through the use of avian symbolism is Mademoiselle Reisz. In the beginning of the novel after the parrot has his escapade it says “he could speak a little Spanish, and also a language which nobody understood unless is was the mocking bird,” which refers to Mad. Reisz because she is a lost soul like Edna who are able to communicate since they are comparable in the eyes of humanity (Chopin 5). As Edna’s mentor, Mad. Reisz gives Edna advice having to relate to avian and Edna. Mad. Reisz told Edna, “The bird that would soar above the level of plain tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth” (Chopin 85). This warning was telling Edna that in order to escape social convictions she must have the strength and energy to succeed (Martin 1).

At the end of Edna’s struggle she gives into suicide and the last image she sees is, “a bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water” (Chopin 116). This wounded bird falling to its death directly symbolizes Edna’s effort to free herself from society and her ultimate escape from reality.

“The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander,” this excerpt shows how Chopin structures the sea to symbolically call on Edna during her awakening (Chopin 25). The archetypal sea is a representation of rebirth, escape and freedom which directly relates to the protagonist of Chopin’s novel. Throughout the novel Chopin craftily made her language a dichotomy with the sea which sets the tone for most of the scenes (Woodlief 3). Being restricted to land resembles the limitations society puts on women and when Edna begins her awakening she starts to learn how to swim which is looked at as pushing society’s limitations “She grew darling and reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before” (Chopin 47). Immediately following her voyage into the sea she tells her husband and he shafts her back into her social confines by saying “You were not so very far, my dear” (Chopin 48).

America is a wonderful place to live because we are free. Freedom is important, and many people in other countries do not have much freedom. I am glad I have a place like this to grow up in, where I know that I can be equal with other races and other genders. Also, I am glad I have a place like this that will respect me, and I know it will be a great place to have my children grow up in. Some of our ancestors did not have the privileges we have now because they grew up in other countries that controlled their religion, who they married, and almost everything else in their lives. That may be one of the reasons they moved to America in the first place. For example, some of my ancestors came to America to get away from the terrible society they were in. I am very grateful for our country, and all of the privileges I have growing up here. In many countries, I wouldn’t be able to get the education that is available to me, and I wouldn’t get many of the rights I have because I am a woman.

Women’s rights have been a major issue in the past, in our country and especially in some other countries, where women must walk around completely covered or they are arrested. In America, even though we had to fight for these rights, now not only can we vote, but also we can also get the same education and same jobs as the men in today’s society.

Another part of America that I like is the way politics are set up. Anyone who thinks they can do a good job is able to run for a place in today’s government. We don’t only have one ruler who makes all our rules and laws, but the people in America rule themselves. I like that because that way if we want something changed, or if enough of us think that something is wrong with our nation, we can make a difference. Voting is a big part of making that difference because voting shows how you want our government run, and whom you want to be represented by. We aren’t just represented by our president. We are also represented by our town councils, our mayors, our governors, our senators, and everyone else that makes up a part of our government, so there are always places open in our society that we can fill to make our own changes.

The freedom of religion in America is another big concept; because that is another reason many people came to America, to break free from the bonds of the designated religion in their country. In some countries, you are made to believe in certain religions. As in America you can believe whatever belief you want to believe in without getting harmed in anyway.

In conclusion, I believe that America is one of the best places to live in. Even though it’s the only place that I’ve ever lived in! I just love all of the freedom that we all have. I actually feel sorry for some of the women in other countries. I am so glad I live in America, and if I lived anywhere else, I would want to move here.

In a time where people were not justified to take action in a world that was unreal in its own very aspect of it. A son was born into a family of blue collard working class family, James Henry Callowy. The family has had its up and down points in there cultivation of living in the America. They left there oppressed land and went to the world the loved of job opportunity. This was totally new to them they were curious about the surrounds and language slangs aspects of life. They found that this was really the land for them, when Henry Rollins got a job at a local mill in the out skirts of Boston. He ended up working as a steel loader for the mill and brought home what he wanted to feed his family. His new born son was a very active little one, he scared his new mother every where he crawled. As he was growing up he looked up to his parents as a Heroes. He always asked questions to his mom, “what’s that”; “how does that do that”. His dad was usually working hard at the mill every day and doing what he knew he came to the this new land to do. James was around his dad but never seemed to really know him. His dad was this discipliner of the family. Every time James would do something that he was not expected to do, his father came in and took authority right away. He loved his dad but really seemed to be more scared of his father at most times than really adore him. James became older and wiser he grew up and hung around the kids in the neighbor hood. These kids would do anything that was all fun and games for them. He played ball, chased girls, read comic books, and listened to rock. Sometimes James and the boys would get into trouble, such at through rocks at objects that were not meant to be thrown at and receive punish meant from shit parents. James’s father definitely tried to teach him right from wrong with a physical teaching. Until one day at the mill his father died of an explosion killing him from this Earth instantly. Friends and family were devastated or him. But his James a 13 year old boy didn’t even shed a tear. He was hurt deep inside but for some reason didn’t feel like this really happened. James didn’t feel like his father was really gone inside his young strongharted body . James was now the man of the house living with his mother. He was the one to keep up with all the job of maintaining the house and began to grow up really fast. His mom lost the home and had to get a job working double shift. At this time in James’s life he was into to new things experiments and ideas. He had his first experience with at beer and cigarettes 16 and at the same time and seemed to love it. His mother a lovely hardworking mother trying to bring James the same things in life, that her husband used to bring to the family. However she could not keep her only child and love her life in line. Jamie was never home and was always out with the boys doing what ever he felt like doing. Which at his age was not socially or legally excepted for him to be doing. He got big into drugs and alcohol and always seemed to never get any better. Once time he was out partying with the boys and another fellow cam across him and gave him some gestures with his small group of friends. They later got violent and proceeded into a fist fight. Out of no where one of the kids James was fight pulled a knife. James got stabbed twice in the abdomens. He still didn’t feel like this was real. He was wondering to him self if this is really happening. He could believe his eyes. Then as quick as it happened every thing faded away. Every one, friends and family grieved of his death. So now he left this world with a poor, sad, widowed, and lonely mother thinking to her self if, is this really happening .

What is a Renaissance man? Do you know? Well a renaissance man is someone that has a broad range of talents. In during the renaissance Leonardo Da Vinci was first Renaissance man. Over time many people have fit into the role as a renaissance man. During are time we can pick out many.

Michel Jordan is modern day renaissance man. Jordan all his life played basketball and baseball. Then he became a professional basketball player. He is considered the best to ever play. He also managed after basketball to start baseball on a team and played with them. He also became a busness man by owning the basketball team named the Wizards. Jordan has shown me that if you are great and many things why not use that to your advantage and show other people. Jordan has affected are world by shocking them with his unbelievable talents in basketball. Jordan has many talents and abilities that show a true renaissance man.

Another person that I think is a modern day Renaissance man is my dad. My dad has many talents and abilities. My dad knows a lot about almost everything. In The Glass Menagerie, it is very clear that there is a major struggle between all of the characters and reality. Amanda, Laura, and Tom are the three main characters that had this struggle. Tennessee Williams did a wonderful job describing scenes and using symbolism throughout the story to stress this struggle.

First, Amanda clearly struggles with the thought of facing reality for a couple of reasons. Amanda seemed like she was always living in the past. She always referred back to her days at “Blue Mountain.” That was her little fantasy world. It was her escape from reality. She always told the story of her seventeen gentlemen callers, dragging her children into her fantasy world as well. She also tried to blind everyone from the fact that her children were not perfect, especially the fact that her daughter was cripple. For example, the word crippled was not allowed in the house. Those are really the two ways that Amanda escaped form reality.

Next, is Laura. Laura was an odd character. The author even expresses symbolism towards her as being different. For example, Jim O’Connor calling her “blue roses.” Another example is the glass unicorn. Those are both very symbolic of Laura’s peculiar manner. It’s clear that blue roses or unicorns are not something that you see everyday. Laura knew she was different, mostly because of her disability. She didn’t feel like she fit in with everyone else. An example of this is the fact that she dropped out of college after only a day. She didn’t have any self-confidence and was far too shy to meet any friends. That is why she seemed to lose herself in her glass collection. The private little world that she lived in was surrounded by glass animals. She even brought up her glass collection when she was nervous with Jim. Her mind was really the only thing keeping her out of the real world, and from meting people, as well as her not going to school. In the end, her mind was her only disability.

Tom’s escape from reality revolved around the movies. All we learn about Tom is what he thinks about his mother, his sister, and his job. Those are precisely the things in which he wanted to escape. Tom went to the movies to escape from Amanda and Laura, but also for that missing piece of his life. He said that there was no adventure in working at a warehouse and there clearly was none in the Wingfield house. He also hated his mother nagging him all the time, but that was his life. He escaped it, night after night, by going to the movies. That was Tom’s way of escaping from reality.

In conclusion, it is very clear that there is a major struggle between all of the main characters and reality. Amanda’s main obsession was living in the past. Laura was too afraid or just too shy to even step out into the real world. Her distortion of reality was found in her glass collection. Finally, Tom escaped from reality at the movies. He had absolutely no adventure in his life, so he would pretend to be the characters in the movies. That was Tom’s only sense of adventure. Those were the main points that were stressed throughout the story to show the character’s struggle with reality.

The definition of a woman is the female of the human race: the female sex or an adult female. The definition of a Black woman is one who is willing, dependent, and a survivor. Today women are known as sophisticated because they were created after man. Black woman are considered with higher power because of all the struggling and hardships that they have suffered throughout the first day of slavery until now.

From years in the past, the issues of a black woman were not so important. They were only known as workers and care providers. For someone to make it through those times they would have to be a survivor. Black woman put up with negativity from name-calling, rape, and much more disrespect. Many tears were shed when these things accrued. But when you look at some of the grandparents today and you see them with a smile upon there faces, you ask yourself how can she smile with all the things that she has been through? The answer is because every black woman is a survivor. Always striving to make things better.

Black woman also has to deal with the feeling of being disrespected by black and white men. This has been going on since 1810. A South African woman by the name of Saartje Baartman was taken to France and England used in an event to show off her large breasts and bottom. Some black males treat the black woman like there nothing. Just like the whites did back in there time. They should be treated with respect like a human being.

Out of all the wrong doings that our women have been through, their head is still not bowed. They are breathing, healthy, and beautiful. That’s all they need to be a phenomenal woman.
